Australians typically spend a fair chunk of their time travelling each day, some of us more than others. The average person spends about 4.3 years in a car over their lifetime and comparably drives the distance to the moon and back three times. Since we spend so much time in our vehicles, the amount of money we spend on them is quite important.

1 in 10 of us are predicted to purchase a new car in the next four years and with that in mind, it makes you wonder - what is the average amount we spend on these vehicles?

So, according to Roy Morgan the average Australian expects to spend $36,840 on their next car, with $133,000 being the average household income, which is 28% of their annual income on a car!

The most popular price bracket is $30,000 to $50,000 -  if you intend on buying within that price bracket you could face more competition from rival buyers.
